Our season runs from mid-April to mid-June.
GYL currently fields teams in the following divisions:
- Learn to Play: Includes groups for K-1st Grade Boys, 2nd Grade Boys, and K-2nd Grade Girls. No travel is required.
- Boys: Grades 3-4, 5-6, 5-6 Select, 7-8
- Girls: Grades 3-4, 5-6, 7-8
For players in grades 3-8, GYL may offer multiple teams per division, dependent on the number of registered players for each level. Our program operates on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. Practices will take place at DiCaprio Park, as well as other fields located in Guilderland. GYL's home games for these divisions are typically played at DiCaprio Park, while away games will occur at the fields of other local youth lacrosse organizations. For Boys and Girls in 3rd-8th grades, Saturday games are commonly played in the form of round robins with consecutive games being played at the same location. Additional weeknight games may be scheduled in place of one of the practices.
A volunteer driven organization, the success of GYL depends on the participation and support of all member families. Volunteer opportunities include Board of Directors positions, coaching positions, field set- up and maintenance, event operations, fundraising, equipment distribution and more.
As part of GYL registration, players and coaches are provided membership in US Lacrosse which includes lacrosse insurance coverage, subscription to Lacrosse Magazine, and other benefits. GYL and other Capital District lacrosse programs operate within the area represented by the Adirondack Chapter of US Lacrosse (ADK). The primary focus of GYL's organizational efforts is the traditional Spring lacrosse season. However, GYL will provide information on various clubs, camps, and clinics which provide additional "off season" lacrosse instruction and play opportunities for interested players. Information on some of these programs can be found through the links below, and will be announced on the "News" page of this site.
